Skins.be Redesign

Please use this thread to give me any and all input on changes you would like to see to skins.be and this forum. We are actively working on redeveloping the site with an eye on improving the user experience while still making it a sustainable product that will thrive for years.

Here are the initial mocks of the home page and the celeb pages. We would love to hear your feedback on the general style and layout. Any input into features to add or remove from the site are welcome as well.

I like the Random skins up higher almost at the top.

Looks fantastic so far. I really like the flat and minmal design, colour as well.



Also: The ads don't look as offensive as often reported, kudos for that

Perhaps i'm too conservative?
I don't like that all new browsers, etc... have this simple grey design.
Guess the dark colors were a trademark of skins. So not such a big fan of the new colors.

Basically I think it's a really nice design! Something new and fresh! The grey layout looks very clean and clear!
But I'm a bit confused! Where is the 'old' left side-bar with some of the quick links (like 'resolutions' or 'community'? maybe I'm blind or it is now in the menu above or some kind of dropdown menu??) And the right side-bar too with the 'babe of the week' or the 'latest posts from the forum' categories?
Well, it's not that important for me, because mainly it's a wallpaper page! Just wondering if this is no longer part of the mainpage??

The ratings are a joke, I mean 1.1/5 for Avril? Really? Maybe let only registered users rate.

I really want 1080 wallpapers, but apparently there was a discussion about it and the decided not to add them. Which is extremely stupid in my opinion because most monitors coming out are 1080.

Overall I like the way it looks. Much simpler layout. I didn't care much for all those windows plastered all over the page. This is a lot easier on the eye

I agree that the random skins would look better higher up on that side of the page. Like Frinky said the ratings are all messed up, it would probably best to get rid of them all together or just reset them and only let members vote. I dont know how much work it would be but i would like to see a link to the babes forum picture page up there with the user uploads/news, it would save a lot of time when you want to find more pictures. Besides those suggestion I would say I think the new layout looks great, nice job.

Will the number of columns depend on how wide your screen is or will it be set to 2? I have a wide screen and having only 2 columns makes it very long. I'd like about 3 or 4 columns.

the design looks great, nice and fresh, can see it still looking fresh in a couple of years time..

With regards to the features, as a regular visitor, I have pretty much never used the "recent user uploads" at the bottom... a latest forum posts in it's place would be more usfull, sure plenty would agree

I really like the simple and clean design.

I hope, that you will try to implement HTML5 as well as CSS3? Especially (CSS3) media queries would be great for widescreen monitors.

PS: Please support 1920 × 1080 resolution detection.

Edit: Official Tweet-Button would be nice, too.

Isn't this a bit like repainting your car when you still haven't got the engine running reliably? Get the server problems under control first, then worry about the superficial stuff.

they didn't even need media queries, they could of used % instead of fixed width, and spanned content to stack as tables, which is a good technique to have the content fill the screen on larger resolutions.. BUT who goes full screen on HD+ monitors? isn't the point of a large rez monitor to multi task better....... win7 even does it's side window snap to half the screen...

and maladroid does make a good point... servers need some support, skins appears to use cloud servers, but going standard dedicated and using a CDN would be cheaper and more reliable

New Design? Looks Great, but what is with the Uploader??? I think the Uploader on Skins is the lowest that i know

Looks very crisp and modern, the grey background should be darker tho.
And i hope that this new design will be for the forum as well =)

And while i'm at it, netbook resolutions and perhaps android/iphone wallies should be added

Its a little heavy on the right side, imo. Other than that, im always happy with the choices made by Admin, not the case with most sites/forums. Keep up the good work. Heres to another 4 years of enjoying a great site.

Edit: I would also like to see 1080 added.

It's been discussed that they aren't going to be adding 1920x1080. IMO I think it is a poor decision, because the majority monitors are going to 1920x1080.

1920x1080 has to added. The vast majority of monitors these days is in that resolution.
